TN21: Geoffrey Saliba, BirdLife Malta

huntergreetsspoonbills

BLMlogoA second conversation with Geoffrey Saliba, Campaigns Coordinator with BirdLife Malta and a central figure in the fight to stop the widespread illegal hunting that takes place in Malta (principally by members of the island’s notorious hunting federation the FKNK – see for example a BLM press-release “FKNK council member sentenced for assault on CABS media officer” and the photograph above – taken last week – of a hunter shooting at migrating Spoonbills).

Once again the quiet dignity and compassion of this dedicated conservationist stands in stark contrast to the wilful disregard of both the law and of national and international sentiments shown by the hunters that roam Malta shooting protected and often threatened species like spoonbills, cranes, ospreys, storks, bee-eaters etc etc.
